New research study for people with Becker muscular dystrophy

A new research study at the University of Birmingham is now recruiting people to explore how adults with Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) process protein.

The study is being carried out by Izzy Haslam, a nutritionist at the MoveWell Centre at the University of Birmingham.

What does the study involve?

The study involves drinking a small protein drink and providing breath samples over several hours. During this time, you can use your phone, watch TV, work or read as you wish, as long as you remain seated and resting.

The study is looking for adult men with Becker muscular dystrophy, as well as healthy male control participants.

By understanding how protein is processed in people with BMD, the research team hopes the findings will help inform future nutritional interventions aimed at supporting and maintaining muscle function and quality of life.
