Nutrition is the science of food. It includes the nutrients in food and how our body utilises it, from ingestion, digestion, absorption, metabolism, transport, storage and excretion. It also includes any environmental, psychological and behavioural aspects of food and how it is eaten.
What happens during a nutrition consultation?
Prior to the first consultation you may be asked to complete a nutritional assessment form. Initially a detailed history including diet, lifestyle and current state of health is taken. Each person is unique and the assessment is done to help develop an individualised nutritional programme. The programme can include educational protocols, dietary and lifestyle modifications and nutritional supplements.* In some cases laboratory tests may be needed.
How can nutrition therapy help?
Everyone can benefit from nutrition therapy. This includes those who have health conditions as well as those without any specific health problems. It helps to address nutritional imbalances that influence a person’s physical and psychological health and well-being. Some conditions that may benefit are; digestive problems, weight difficulties, headaches, fatigue, arthritis, cardiovascular illnesses, chronic infections, candidiasis, PMT, food intolerances and allergies.
